Frizzle Sizzle is a Corkscrew Plant

George & Rita Arnold from Arnold's Greenhouse in LeRoy KS were the guest speakers for a Reno County  Master Gardener's hosted public presentation in mid February at Emanuel Lutheran Church.

Rita introduced the audience to a succulent type plant called Frizzle Sizzle. It is an unusual plant that requires very little moisture and is easy care. This picture is a bit fuzzy, my apologies, but still shows the curly tips of the plant fairly clearly. It starts as a bulb and has thick stocks that curl at the ends. It grows about 8 inches and would be a good container plant. As with succulents, let it dry out before watering and it needs good drainage, The dryness encourages the stock to curl tighter, a desirable quality. It is drought tolerant but certainly not winter hardy. You may plant it outdoors this spring after frost danger has ended, it will be fine in partial shade. But come Fall, if you wish to keep it, you will need to treat it as a houseplant. Put it in a container and give it a sunny window to over winter.

What is a Succulent? A plant, such as cactus and sedum, that has adapted to arid conditions and stores its own water. Succulents grow slowly and require little care. Succulents have become very popular because they are disease resistant and easy care. Think I'll try this one. Submitted by hutchgaudygardener.
