2014 Master Gardener Hutchinson Garden Tour

You are invited to Master Gardeners' sixth annual Hutchinson Garden Tour on Saturday, June 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Spend a relaxing day touring and enjoying some of Hutchinson's most beautiful and inspiring gardens and landscapes.
Visit the hidden floral treasures of five private gardens plus Master Gardener's Demonstration Garden on the Hutchinson Community College Campus.  Enjoy gardens that showcase unusual trees, shrubs and flowers, creative landscapes and relaxing outdoor living spaces.  Highlights of this year's tour include a European cottage garden with intriguing walkways and hidden gardens; a sweeping yard and veranda accented with  fabulous hydrangeas and a vast array of shrubs and flowers; an exquisite serene urban sanctuary with a waterfall and water cascading over rock formations into seven ponds; a mid-century modern landscape with unique lighting fixtures and hardscaping, plus unusual plants including a 50 year old gingko tree, a fig bush, and lilac trees;  a  neglected property rescued and transformed into a natural country setting with organic flower and vegetable gardens on a 3-lot property; and Master Gardener's demonstration garden featuring a wide variety of Prairie Star annuals, perennials, shrubs and ornamental grasses chosen to thrive in our tough Kansas summers.
New for the 2014 Garden Tour are professional horticulture speakers at the gardens.  Learn about pruning shrubs and trees from an arborist, creating stunning hardscapes and water features, managing your turf, composting and vermiculture, soil testing, and growing annuals best suited to our challenging Kansas weather.   Your ticket will include a map of the garden locations and the schedule of short educational talks at each garden.  Informational materials are available on each subject all day.  Reno County Extension Master Gardeners will be your tour guides at each of the six gardens, and available to answer gardening questions.
Advance tickets may be purchased prior to the day of the tour for $8.00 at the Reno County Extension Office at 2 W. 10th, South Hutchinson; Dillon Nature Center, 3002 E. 30th; Stutzman’s Greenhouse in Pleasantview and on Apple Lane,  Bornholdt’s Plantland at 1508 West 4th, Benton’s Greenhouse at 209 South Valley Pride Road,  and at all Dillons stores in Hutchinson.
Tickets may be purchased on line with a credit card at www.reno.ksu.edu; click on Horticulture and Outdoors, then Master Gardeners for ticket ordering form.  Or you may call Reno Country Extension (620-662-2371) to order tickets.  Tickets will also be available at each of the gardens the day of the tour for $10.00.  Children 12 and younger are free.
Garden Tour proceeds support Master Gardener community education programs and the Master Gardener demonstration garden at Hutchinson Community College, as well as gardens at Dillon Nature Center and Reno County Extension.  Funds also support youth programs, including the Youth Lawnmower Safety Clinic, Junior Master Gardeners, and 4-H.
